A local guide to beaches, history, nature and creative spaces. Larnaca brings together history, culture, nature and everyday Cypriot life. Whether you are visiting for a day or staying longer, these ten places offer a lovely introduction to the city.
1. Finikoudes Promenade and Beach

Finikoudes is Larnaca's best-known seafront, lined with palm trees, cafés and restaurants. Walk along the promenade, enjoy a coffee by the water or relax on the beach. The seabed is shallow in places, though conditions vary, so follow local safety advice when swimming. Nearby you will find Militzis, The Brewery and 1900 Art Café, along with many other cafés and restaurants.
2. Church of Saint Lazarus

In the heart of old Larnaca, this 9th-century church is one of the city's most important historic and religious landmarks. It is traditionally associated with the tomb of Lazarus who, according to Christian tradition, came to Cyprus and became Bishop of Kition. Admire the stone architecture and the carved iconostasis. Please dress respectfully and check visiting hours before you go.
3. Every Day Is a Gift Art Gallery

It is called "Every Day Is a Gift", 30 metres from Saint Lazarus Church. This small art and handmade jewellery gallery features work by local artists. It is becoming a must-visit on both Google Maps and Tripadvisor. The energies are so high and cleansing – and yes, a visit is a must. There are crafts from €10, unique and stunning. Check directly with the venue for current opening hours and events.
4. Larnaca Salt Lake

Southwest of the city centre, the Salt Lake is a remarkable natural area made up of four interconnected lakes. It is an important wetland, and in winter migrating birds, including flamingos, can often be seen here, although numbers vary and sightings are never guaranteed. It is also a lovely place for a walk, especially around sunset. Stay on the marked paths and avoid disturbing the wildlife.
5. Hala Sultan Tekke

Set beside the Salt Lake, Hala Sultan Tekke is a peaceful mosque and an important Islamic site. Its setting makes it a natural stop during a visit to the lake. Dress modestly and check visitor access before going.
6. Larnaca Medieval Castle

At the southern end of the Finikoudes promenade, the castle offers a glimpse into the city's defensive history. Its small museum displays historic objects, and its position by the sea makes it a memorable stop. Check current admission prices and opening times.
7. Mackenzie Beach

Mackenzie is known for its lively beach scene, restaurants and views of aircraft approaching Larnaca International Airport. It is a popular place for a swim or a meal by the sea. Follow any posted swimming guidance. Beachfront venues include Ammos, Lush and Rebuke.
8. Pierides Museum

The Pierides Museum introduces visitors to Cyprus's long history through archaeological objects collected by the Pierides family. Check the museum's opening hours and admission details before visiting.
9. Kamares Aqueduct

Built in the 18th century, the aqueduct once carried water to the city. Its long line of stone arches is especially photogenic in the softer light of early morning or evening.
10. Larnaca's Old Town

Wander through the older streets around the city centre and you will find cafés, small shops, historic buildings and glimpses of everyday local life. The best way to explore is on foot, with time to stop for a coffee or a meal.
